Truth Told, The Woke ARE Going Broke

The author of an opinion piece posted this over on Twitter.

In 2021, the platitude “Get Woke, go broke” is dead. Everyone got woke, and no one who got woke went broke. The meme was on life support before 2019. In 2021 its corpse is starting to smell. Did anyone ever believe this? Probably not. And from this point onward we should be honest about our situation, there would be more dignity.

Look, I don’t know what he was thinking of in 2021, but here in 2024, his prognosticatory powers are starting to look a little weak. Let’s recap:

Comics. Everything doom and gloom, to the point that they are beginning to include CHILDREN’S BOOKS in the list of comic books sales in order to juice the numbers. Comic stores are shutting down, people are leaving the industry left and right, and page rates are so low full-time professionals can’t afford dental care.

Hollywood. Current projects in development have dropped by 33%, year over year (400 instead of 600), execs, writers, producers, etc. are all out of jobs, some permanently, Disney lost nearly $1.5 BILLION dollars in one year, and Paramount is so close to collapse the rumor is that Sony is looking at acquiring it.

Video Games. Layoffs in the AAA industry are in the tens of thousands, studios are closing left and right, Square Enix just took a $140 million loss on cancelled projects, and AA games Palworld, Helldivers, and Stellar Blade are eating their lunch.

I don’t know what people are expecting from “get woke, go broke”, but the repercussions of whole industries turning their backs on what their customers want to buy are continuing to echo. The pain is real, and while it is taking longer than people may have expected or wanted, the consequences for Wokism are here and they are BAD.

The JK Rowling Mandela Effect

Somebody on Twitter told JK Rowling that nobody reads her books and since that is absolutely not the world I am familiar with, I must have fallen through into an alternate timeline. I just want to let you people know that in the timeline I’m originally from her books are HUGE, like you wouldn’t even believe it.

Rowling Mandela Effect incoming.

$7.7 billion in sales for a 7-book standard British boarding school series with fantasy added (in case you weren’t familiar), plus 11 movie adaptations for the original 7 books and a TV series on the way, the best selling video game of 2023, plus entire THEME PARKS.

Her books were so popular they dominated the New York Times Bestseller List to the point that they had to CREATE AN ENTIRELY NEW LIST to put them on just so other people would show up again. They are STILL—17 years after the last one dropped—dominating the bestseller lists on Amazon and Audible, and the merch sales are INSANE.

She’s a BILLIONAIRE, and only a billionaire instead of much, much more because she gave over $225 million to charity.

So obviously I’ve entered a world where none of that happened, and Rowling is just a small-time writer of modern-era Murder Mystery novels. Sad, you guys would have loved the Harry Potter books. They were really great.

So is this the timeline where Chick-fil-A won the Fast Food Wars, or am I completely screwed?
